Before, during and after a regatta you have to remember a list of tasks that will help to obtain a better position in a race. You should remember some points:
- Eating well two hours before the boat race it is important so you will feel active and not sleepy and heavy.
- Prepare all the material you’re using, not to forget anything at home or at the hotel: Clubs, sailing, sheets, pulleys, or bar streamers, capes small, keel, rudder, vest, flag of protest, surf clothing, sunscreen, etc.
- Read the sailing schedule (system output, changes of itinerary, etc)
- See the weather forecast. This is really important not to get surprise and so being ready and expect each climate aversion.
- Consider if there are currents.
- Choose the right clothes you’re going to wear. It is important clothing is chosen accurately. Good to have spare clothes you think you might need during the race. Some sturdy walking boots are also a good tip, as they offer great support.
- Carry out spare parts and stroke on board.
- Mark where the itinerary is and mark where the floats are.
- If it’s windy, test the materials to find out if they will be strong enough.
- Study the currents that you will find in the itinerary.
- Try the board with a colleague.
One of the largest and most popular regattas in the UK is the Henley Royal Regatta held on the River Thames which took place this month being held from Wednesday 30th June to Sunday 4th July.
